Comparison of legal forms. The GmbH (Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung) is the most common legal form for small and medium-sized companies in Germany, which offers limited liability and requires a minimum capital of EUR 25,000.
The LLC (Limited Liability Company) is a US legal form that cannot be established directly in Germany, but offers similar advantages to a GmbH, albeit with more flexible structures and often lower formation costs.
The LTD. (Limited) is a British legal form that was frequently used before Brexit by German entrepreneurs was used as an alternative to the GmbH, as it had lower capital requirements, but has become less attractive since the UK left the EU.
